Follow along with Matthew Pirotte in Addis, Ethiopia. He is in the capital providing EM services.
Hey it’s Matt, guest posting on Jen’s account. I worked for 2 weeks in the ED at Myungsung Christian Medical Center in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
This is the hospital. MCM is considered by basically everyone to be the best hospital in Ethiopia. It has a SICU, 2 fully functioning ORs, a NICU with vents, L+D, a fully functioning lab, and a large outpatient center. It is run by Koreans affiliated with Myungsung Church in Seoul – the largest Presbityrian Church in the world.
The ED has about 10 beds including 2 resuscitation rooms. There is a steady flow of medical patients and many trauma patients. Car accidents and assualts are common in Addis, as are construction accidents – we saw it all.
I’ll break other posts down so as not to make this one too huge.
I an happy to see this contribution you are making in developing emergency medicine
i am also emergency medicine specialist based in ADDIS ,i am willing to work with this proffesion.
