(Blogpost from Usha Periyanayagam in Cambodia)
This project I’m working on is through Stanford’s collaboration with URC, University Research Consortion, and is funded by USAID. URC is in the middle of a five year project (Better Health Services) with the Cambodia government that has wide goals, including providing funding for very low income patients, implementing electronic records as well as promoting nutrition, breast feeding and vaccination of children. Stanford is involved with the Hospital Improvement Project (HIP). This group reaches out to multiple different government hospitals with the goal of improving care provided. The hospitals are wide variety of staffing and their doctors and nursing have a wide variety of training. Many were trained years ago, and have had no additional training since. Specifically as the field of emergency medicine is concerned, there is minimal triage, thought of broad differential diagnosis, and ruling out of emergent conditions first.
Check back in a few days for more post from Usha!
